Many Muslim children, because of fear of discrimination, never tell their friends they are Muslim.

So millions of Americans grow up not even knowing a Muslim.

But Muslims have been living in the U.S. going back to its founding; over 30% of the slaves who came from Africa in the slave trade were Muslim.

And the founders, being advocates for the freedom of religion, were explicit in their embracing of Islam. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Even if the Mufti of Constantinople were to send a missionary to preach Mohammedanism to us, he would find a pulpit at his service.”
